What Is a Build Lab?

From Skills to Shipped Products

A Build Lab is a structured, intensive sprint — typically 4 to 6 weeks — where a small squad of builders works together under experienced mentors to design, build, test, and present a real product.

Unlike a hackathon, which ends after 48 hours, Build Labs give you enough time to complete something well. Unlike a course, the entire output is a working product — not a certificate.

Every Build Lab ends with a Demo Day, where builders present to mentors, peers, and community partners. Selected projects are featured in the Builder Showcase and considered for the 30-Day Builder Sprint.

Sprint Structure

Six Weeks. One Real Product.

Wk 1

Define the Problem

Identify a real problem, validate it with potential users, and agree on the product your squad will build.

Wk 2–3

Prototype and Build

Using AI tools and guided mentor sessions, build the first working version of your product. Messy drafts are expected.

Wk 4

Test With Real Users

Every squad gets feedback from at least five real potential users. Update and improve based on what you learn.

Wk 5

Refine and Document

Polish the product, write documentation, and prepare your Demo Day presentation.

Wk 6

Demo Day

Present your product to mentors and partners. Selected projects move into the 30-Day Builder Sprint.
