Code of Conduct
A safe, inclusive, builder-first community for everyone.
NextGen Builders is built on the belief that the best communities are diverse, inclusive, and built on mutual respect. This Code of Conduct applies to all community members, mentors, event participants, and anyone interacting with our community in any context — online or in-person.
Our Commitment
We are committed to providing a welcoming, supportive, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or experience level. We do not tolerate harassment of community members in any form.
Expected Behaviour
All community members are expected to:
- Treat every person with respect, kindness, and consideration
- Offer and receive feedback constructively, focusing on the work, not the person
- Acknowledge and credit the contributions of others
- Be open to different viewpoints, backgrounds, and approaches
- Support newcomers and less experienced members without condescension
- Use language that is inclusive and welcoming to people from all backgrounds
- Maintain confidentiality of private or sensitive information shared within the community
Unacceptable Behaviour
The following behaviours are not acceptable in our community:
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind
- Verbal, written, or physical abuse or threats
- Unwelcome sexual attention, imagery, or advances
- Deliberate misgendering or use of preferred pronouns or names
- Sharing others' private information without their explicit consent
- Sustained disruption of events, discussions, or community spaces
- Personal or political attacks designed to humiliate or discredit
- Any conduct that would reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting
Reporting
If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it immediately. You can do so by:
- Contacting a community organiser or event host directly
- Using the contact form on our website
- Emailing us using the contact details on our Contact page
All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality. We will respond to every report and take appropriate action. Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith is itself a violation of this Code of Conduct.
Consequences
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:
- A private warning from a community organiser
- Removal from a specific event, channel, or session
- Temporary suspension of community membership
- Permanent removal from the community
The severity of the response will be proportionate to the nature and impact of the violation, taking into account context, intent, and history.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies in all community spaces, including online platforms, events, Buildathons, Build Labs, social media interactions related to the community, and any other context in which a person represents the NextGen Builders community.
Attribution
This Code of Conduct is adapted from widely adopted community standards in open-source and learning communities. We review and update it regularly based on community feedback and emerging best practices.
